Let's Celebrate Women Around the World
March 8, 2016, marked the celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women around the globe. Each year thousands of events occur celebrating International Women's Day - large global gatherings, conferences, awards, exhibitions, festivals, fun runs, corporate events, concerts and performances, key speaker events, online digital gatherings and more. Events are held by many types of groups including women's networks, corporations, charities, educational institutions, government bodies, political parties and the media.
In solidarity with this world-wide event, La Federazione Abruzzese honoured Golden Age Academy member and President, Lucia Paterra (among other women), for her work of art: "Keep on Loving" (shown above).
The artist received both an Honourable Mention and Gold Pendant for her painting.
In discussing her inspiration behind the artwork, the artist explained that the painting tells a story about women's trials and tribulations. In her view, for every woman who falls, the triumph lies in her strength in getting back up. The artist stated: "'Keep on loving' defines this precise moment in a woman's life - when she falls only to rise again".
Ms. Paterra's painting is currently on display at Queen's Park in Toronto, Ontario until July 31, 2016.
